Local schools compete in Girls Cup

Lancaster Girls’ Grammar and Walney School will play on the main pitch at Globe Arena in the local final of the Kinder+Sport Football League Girls Cup 2014.

Each season the Football League organises two cup competitions for junior footballers from schools across the country (the Kids Cup and Girls Cup), with the finals being played in the build-up to some of the biggest matches of the domestic season.

The Football League Girls Cup comprises a six-a-side competition for U13 girls, that culminates in a grand final played before the Johnstone’s Paints Trophy Final at Wembley in March 2015.

The local heats took place at Globe Arena on 3 November 2014, with schools from across the district taking part.  There were thrills aplenty in a series of entertaining games, with lots of skills on show and some dramatic goals.  Members of Morecambe’s first team were also on hand to show their support to the young players.

The local final will be played on the main pitch at half-time during Morecambe’s home game against Bury (15 November, kick-off at 2:30pm)  The winners of the clash between Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School and Walney School will progress to the Area Final, which takes place at Blackburn Rovers in January.
