Match Report - FA Youth Cup Round 1

3 November 2014

Doncaster Rovers U18s 3 Morecambe U18s 1

MORECAMBE'S youngsters bowed out of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-1 defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The Shrimps got off to the worst possible start when they went a goal down after just four minutes.

Liam Mandeville picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and after spotting Will Kitchen off his line curled a superb long range effort into the top corner of the Shrimps' goal.

Alex Head twice headed over for the home side before Mandeville went close again after cutting on from the left but saw his shot beaten down by some good Morecambe defending.

The Shrimps' first effort of note came with Jack Kelleher's long range shot that flew over the bar before Jack McKay doubled Doncaster's advantage on 40 minutes. McKay picked up the ball on the right beat two defenders before squeezing a low shot past Kitchin.

The Shrimps started the second half well and Kelleher had an excellent opportunity to pull a goal back on 55 minutes when he found himself in space in the area but his first touch was poor and the chance went begging.

Nathan Bondswell was then put through on goal two minutes later but Doncaster keeper Jack McLaren raced off his line to avert the danger.

After a period of dominance the Shrimps were undone for a third time on 69 minutes when Rovers added a third  through Paul McKay who got on the end of a low Davies cross.

Kelleher pulled one back on 75 minutes when he produced a cool finish from a swift counter attack
