Reserves go down 4-0 to a strong Wigan Athletic side at Christopher Park

MORECAMBE Reserves went down 4-0 to a strong Wigan Athletic side at Christopher Park in the Final Third Development League this afternoon.

The Shrimps, who included Jamie Devitt and Andreas Arestidou on their returns, struggled to match a Latics side that consisted of seven first team players including James Tavernier, Thomas Rogne, Ben Watson and Emyr Huws.

Wigan created a number of chances throughout the 90 minutes with two goals from Andy Delort followed by a near post finish from Rob Kiernan and a second half tap in from Jordan Flores.

After half chances for Oriol Riera and Andy Delort, Latics opened their account on 20 minutes with a fine move and finish. Watson found Tavernier racing down the right wing, with the full back provided the perfect cross to Delort who powered his header home.

On 35 minutes Delort claimed his second of the afternoon with a cool chip from the edge of the area.

Four minutes later and Latics extended their lead to 3-0 when Flores' corner provided the assist for Kiernan who stole in at the near post to fire home left footed.

Within the opening 10 or so minutes of the second half Latics hit the post twice and managed to extend their lead to 4-0 on 57 minutes when Flores tucked home the rebound after a Riera effort had hit the post.
