TWO goals in three minutes earned Morecambe a valuable three points against second placed Burton Albion.

Kevin Ellison and Alex Kenyon, with his first Football League goal, earned Jim Bentley’s side their second successive away win and took them back into the top six of League 2.

Ellison broke the deadlock with his sixth goal of the season on 58 minutes. Jamie Devitt crossed to the far post, Padraig Amond headed back into the area and Ellison volleyed past Jon McLaughlin from 12 yards out.

Three minutes later the Shrimps doubled their lead. Devitt curled over a right wing corner which was met by Ellison. His header was well saved by McLaughlin but Kenyon was on hand to stab the ball over the line from close range for his first Morecambe goal.

Burton did little to threaten the Shrimps in the second period despite the best efforts of former PNE front man Stuart Beavon who produced a series of dangerous crosses, one of which was almost converted by Jacob Blyth.

Burton looked the sharper of the sides in the first half and had the better of the chances.

Midfielder Robbie Weir forced Barry Roche into a smart save in the sixth minute and Adam McGurk flicked a corner inches over the bar.

The Brewers’ best chances came just past the half hour when they had two efforts cleared off the line in quick succession. Jacob Blyth saw his first effort from Alex MacDonald’s pull back was blocked by Mark Hughes and then Weir’s follow up was blocked by the excellent Andy Parrish.

MacDonald ended the half with a long range free kick that flew inches wide of the right hand post as Burton looked to take the lead.

The Shrimps looked much sharper in the second half and were quickly out of the blocks with Ellison forcing McLaughlin into a flying save with a superb long range effort that was heading for the top left corner.
