MORECAMBE skipper Mark Hughes has issued a statement about a negative Twitter comment that was attributed to him on Sunday following the Shrimps’ defeat to Dagenham.
Hughes said: “I was shocked as anyone to see the comment that was allegedly made by me towards a supporter after the game.
“I did open a twitter account but I have not used it for more than a year.
“I had some problems with several personal accounts being hacked last year and I can only presume that that has happened here and I am deeply distressed to see my name associated with such comments made to a Morecambe fan.
“I am looking to do all I can now to take my account down for good to avoid anything like this happening again.
“I am proud to be the captain of Morecambe Football Club and would not do anything to harm the relationship the club has with its fans.’’
