Barkhuizen can’t wait for the new season after signing two year deal with the Shrimps
TOM Barkhuizen says he can’t wait for the new season after signing a two year deal with Morecambe.
The 21-year-old, who was released by Blackpool at the end of the season, became Jim Bentley’s first pre season signing on Friday night and is looking forward to a new challenge with the club.
Barkhuizen said: “I really enjoyed my loan spell at Morecambe last year.
“I knew the gaffer wanted to extend my loan last season and we have always kept in touch.
“When I was released I let him know and it just went from there. I spoke to my agent and once I knew there was interest from Morecambe I didn’t want to speak to anyone else. I didn’t want anyone else to turn my head because I was set on the move.
“It happened really quickly and hopefully I can now kick on again and hopefully the team can kick on as well.’’
He added: “I just want to play regularly again it’s been a long time since I’ve had that feeling, The manager has said I will play a big part in his plans and I can’t wait to play regularly again after a couple of stop-start years.’’
