Reserve Team Match Report: Morecambe 1-2 Wrexham

THE Shrimps' Reserves went down 2-1 to Conference side Wrexham at the Globe Arena.

On an afternoon when both teams enjoyed the upper hand for periods, it was the Dragons who eventually won out.

After a goalless first half, it took only 60 seconds of the the second period for Wrexham to break the deadlock with former Accrington striker  James Gray firing home from the penalty spot.

The Shrimps were level when Craig Carney blasted home, but that was nothing compared to Gray’s second and winning goal, a stunning effort from long distance on 67 minutes.

Morecambe started brightly with Jack Kelleher firing high before home keeper Tony Thompson saved well from Joe Quigley and Gray's follow up header.

Thompson was back in action again when he saved from Ross White after a melee in the home goal after a corner.

Wrexham opened the scoring a minute into the second half. He was felled in the home area but dusted himself down and fired home under the diving Thompson.

The Shrimps levelled on 55 minutes when Carney blasted home a right wing cross from just inside the Wrexham box.

The winner came on 67 minutes when Gray fired in a very special strike from 30 yards that flew into the top corner with Thompson having no chance.
