Match Preview: Morecambe vs Northampton Town

SHRIMPS’ boss Jim Bentley is hoping fans turn out in numbers to see his in-form side face Northampton at the Globe Arena on Saturday.

After four straight wins, and 10 goals in the last three league games, the Shrimps are the side to watch in League 2 at the moment and Bentley is hoping fans will come out in force to help keep that run going.

Bentley said: “It’s been a good week or two for us.

“We’re doing well in the league, scoring goals and winning games, and now we’re back in front of our home fans and hopefully the local public will get right behind us and come out and back us in what is a big game for us.

“We’re fifth, three points from top of the table, we’re the second leading goalscorers in the league, we’ve got some exciting players, things are going well and we need the town to get behind us.

“We can’t really do much more.

“We’re playing one of the fancied sides in the league and it should be a big game.”

Bentley is ready for a stiff test against a highly fancied Northampton side.

He said: “Northampton are one of the better sides in the league with the front four they’ve got and the back up.

“They’ve got good firepower and options.

“They have been a little bit up and down with results and doing the work on them it looks like they’ve struggled in defensive areas that they’ve addressed and brought in two very good loan signings.

“Last week they went and signed (Peterborough’s) Shaun Brisley and Darnell Furlong from QPR on loan and that’s tightened them up.

“They played extremely well when they won 1-0 on Saturday (against Oxford).

“They’re a big club at this level with a manager who knows it (the level) well.

“Like us they’ve got goals throughout the team so it’ll be a tough test for us, but one we are prepared for.’’
