Comedy Acts

Comedy Night line-up confirmed.

John Lory

From an early age, this young man was destined to spend his life doing one thing, and one thing only.... making people laugh!

John's professional career began in the early 90's, perfecting his trade in the pubs and clubs across the South of England, leading on to several years performing for all the major holiday and hotel chains around the UK, along with some of the most prestigious theatres in the country.

Twenty years on, and John's talent has taken him worldwide, performing to audiences in over 30 countries, including South Africa, Australia and Dubai, whilst writing with, and working alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. Recently a regular headline act for Carnival Cruises, entertaining American and Canadian audiences alike, he was also officially the most frequently booked comedian on the P&O flagship 'Ocean Village', recording a run of 135 shows, a fact he is very proud of. In 2009, whilst back on British soil, John broke onto the 'after dinner' scene, and now, with tailor-made material delivered in his own imitable style, has become one of the most sought after comedians on the circuit today.

Much of this success has been attributed to one thing, his unique ability to subtly bridge the gap between mainstream and alternative humour, a feat few other comics can achieve. From a cheeky 'family friendly' show to a more risqué set for his 'adult only' nights, John effortlessly adjusts to any environment, making him the perfect choice for sporting and golf day dinners, Rotary and Round Table events, general cabaret evenings and themed comedy nights.

Simply put, John Lory is a very funny man, and anyone who has seen him work will agree that it is his sheer force of personality and audience contact that makes him quite literally, 'the face of comedy today'!

Kath Morgan-Thompson

describes herself as a 53 years old yoga teacher and middle-aged Bollywood/Kathak and Northern Soul dancing fiend. Kath has been doing open mic stand up comedy gigs and developing a comedy dance Burlesque character called Mrs No Overall, loosely  based on the wonderful Victoria Wood character played by Julie Walters - Mrs Overall.

Mrs No Overall has appeared at several charity fund raising and comedy
variety shows in Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Shipley, Harrogate and
Knarsborough.

Kath has another comedy Bollywood dance character who is called Auntydinnerladyji; a dinner lady that has appeared at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Knarsborough, an Indian Wedding reception at the Bradford Hilton and a large charity event at Elland Road Leeds.

Chris Lumb

Chris is a comedian, writer and director. He makes comedy films through his company "Lumbfilm Productions" @LUMBFILM, based in Leeds and runs and performs in an Improvisation comedy group "The Discount Comedy Checkout." He also performs stand up and character comedy

I have loved Morecambe and Wise from as far back as i can remember, watching as many of their shows as I could and still do! Don't get me started on how many books about them I have either! They are one, if not the main reasons I got into comedy in the first place. The banter they had between each other shows just how well they knew one another. In the comedy group I run we have the same kind of thing, you know what the other will say and it pours out to the audience that you are really enjoying performing. If I had to pick a favourite sketch of theirs it has to be the Grieg Piano Concerto, everything about it is fantastic, truly a classic!

Come and watch Chris, along with our other talented hopefuls, in the last of our comedy heats at Stanley Road WMC Stanley Rd, City Centre, Blackpool, FY1 4QL on April 14th.

I've also added a pic of the character i'll be doing at the audition "Bob Torquay".

Jimmy O

My name is Jimmy O. I'm a stand-up comedian from Wigan with 10 years experience. I have performed the length and breadth of the country and in that time I have also done television work as well (Living with Kimberly Stewart, Cruising with the Stars) and the most recent being the BBC 2 show Funny Business in which I featured Heavily in episode “Waves of Laughter”.

As well as being known for my live work, I have had over a 1,000,000 hits on my You Tube channel : The Wigan Joker, with my viral comedy videos.

My Style is character based, Dead pan, original one liners, below is a recent review of me by Derek Smith of The Stage news paper:

“ I’ve not seen the Wigan-based comic before so I’ve clearly been missing out. It’s not often you sit through a comedian’s set without recognising more than a few jokes, but this was all original stuff, not just in material, but in style of performance too. At one point his delivery was so laboured, I was sure he’d nodded off mid-gag, but in reality, this was a master class in deadpan, cutting comedy.”

Earlier  Last year I came second in a national comedy competition 'Joker of the Year', also and I can provide references and testimonials regarding my ability as a stand up comedian.
