Dagenham 2 Morecambe 1

6 April 2016

Match Report: Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 Morecambe

MORECAMBE'S poor recent away form continued with a disappointing defeat against bottom club Dagenham.

Goals from Joss Labadie and Jamie Cureton helped the Daggers to victory over the Shrimps  who pulled one back through Tom Barkhuizen late in the game but could not force an equaliser.

Dagenham started well and Joss Labadie was soon in the thick of the action with a long range shot that flew just inches wide off the goal.

Labadie once again with a shot from distance in the eighth minute, this time the shot managed to bounce over Barry Roche and into the back of the net.

Morecambe hit back and Daggers' keeper Mark Cousins pulled out an incredible save to prevent Jamie Devitt’s shot from inside the box, which looked to go in.

The comeback was derailed when just before the half hour veteran home striker Jamie Cureton extended the lead for the Daggers. Labadie passed through the defence and Cureton took it round Roche and easily put it into the back of the net.

Devitt was the Shrimps' biggest threat and he had another chance on goal but was denied by Dominic Hyam, who put his body on the line to block the shot.

Labadie was given a yellow card just before half time after an aerial battle.

The second half saw Cureton fire across goal before Shrimps' sub Kevin Ellison nearly brought back one for the visitors when he headed against the post.

On 72 minutes Joe Worrall’s header went past the far post before the Shrimps pulled on back in the 76th minute through Tom Barkhuizen. The substitute put the ball into the empty net after a Hyam clearance came off Cole Stockton and fell  nicely onto the path of Barkhuizen.

The Shrimps pushed for the equaliser for the final 15 minutes of the game but could not break past a desperate Dagenham defence.
