Jim Bentley says the result is everything in today's match vs Carlisle United
SHRIMPS' boss Jim Bentley says the result is everything when his side meet Carlisle United this afternoon looking to end their run of one point in seven games.
Boss Bentley said his side's aim was three points - and he didn't matter how they came.
He said: “We’ve been saying we’ve been playing well and not getting the results but I’d rather play poorly and get a result because that’s the be all and end all.
“We’ve got to find a way of winning a game.
“It’ll be tough because we’ve got Luton away on the Tuesday and then Crawley again on the Saturday.
“They’re coming thick and fast again and it will be testing on the squad with the couple of injuries and suspensions that we’ve had but we’ll get on with the job in hand.”
Bentley insists the run doesn’t reflect his side’s recent performances with the 1-1 draw against Portsmouth the only point picked up since January 23.
He said: “That’s the thing that’s done my head in the most.
I think we’ve deserved a lot more than we’ve got from the last seven games to be honest.
“We got the point against Portsmouth but all the other games have been small margins.
“But if you can’t do the right thing and you’re making an individual error you can get punished for it and that’s certainly what’s happened to us.
“Against Bristol Rovers we didn’t put a foot wrong for 68 minutes and the first mistake we made has cost us a goal.
“We didn’t deserve to get beaten but you can’t feel sorry for yourselves, it’s about trying to keep the performance levels up, keep creating the chances and keep scoring the goals we’re scoring.
“We’ve just got to cut out these individual errors that are costing us.”
The Shrimps boss insists he would be more worried if his side were being outclassed every week, but four of the six defeats have been by a scoreline of 2-1.
Bentley said: “It’s not as if teams have steamrollered us.
“Oxford did when we went down to 10 men (winning 4-2) but apart from that it’s been hard to take.
“They are teams in the play-off or promotion places with the exception of Newport.
“We’ve given a good account of ourselves but just haven’t got the results we deserve.
“We’ve got to remain positive though and try and get the result that will break the cycle.”
Positivity is something Bentley insists will remain around the Globe Arena despite The Shrimps boss enduring his worst run at the helm.
He said: “Football can hurt you but I’m a positive person.
“We came back in on Monday morning (after the 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers) and it’s about doing the right things and getting on with the job in hand which is lifting spirits and morale.”
