Luke Conlan Signs

9 June 2016

Luke Conlan joins the Shrimps on a two year deal.

THE Shrimps have secured their second signing of the summer with left-back Luke Conlan joining on a two year deal.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international spent two periods on loan with the Shrimps last season and impressed boss Jim Bentley enough to earn himself a contract after being released by Burnley.

After securing the deal Bentley said: “Luke came in on loan last season and put in some strong performances.

“He's young, got plenty of potential and will only get better the more he plays and adapts to football at League 2 level.

“He's a good lad with a good attitude and he has a great desire to succeed and progress. We're very pleased he's agreed to join us and together we are looking to improve.''

Conlan, 20, initially joined The Shrimps for a month in January having spent the first half of the season on loan with Scottish Championship side St Mirren. He made 14 appearances for the Shrimps in total.

Conlan said: “The manager showed great faith to bring me in at the end of last season and the fact he gave me as much game time as he did gave me a strong positive feeling towards him.

“The group of lads and staff at the club helped me settle in really well into a new environment!

“I really enjoyed my experience last year and know with the quality that's in the dressing room we can do a lot better this year than what we showed at the end of last season.

“For me I just want to keep working hard and get a good pre season under me to set me up for a long season and hopefully be better prepared for the physical side of it this season!

“The first team is a massive difference from Under 21s football but I enjoyed the challenge and I know the more games I play and the experience I get from playing with some of the players in our team will only make me a better player.''

Conlan is the second defender to sign a deal this summer after Dean Winnard moved from Accrington Stanley.
