ADAM MCGURK SIGNS

31 August 2017

MORECAMBE have signed striker Adam McGurk from Cambridge United.

The 28-year-old Irishman has joined the Shrimps after being allowed to leave The U’s.

McGurk started his career in the Aston Villa youth academy in 2004, but failed to break into the first team, and joined Hednesford Town on a free transfer in March 2010.

Having made 12 appearances for Hednesford, he signed for Tranmere Rovers in August 2010, making 79 league appearances in three years, before being released by the club in July 2013.

McGurk, a Northern Ireland Under 21 international, signed a two-year contract with Burton Albion on 5 August 2013 and went on to score 15 goals in 71 games for the Brewers and earning a high profile move to Portsmouth in 2015 with a switch to Cambridge following in 2016.

Shrimps’ boss Jim Bentley said: “Adam will be a great addition to the squad. He is the right age and has experience at this level and he will give us the attacking options we have been looking for.

“He knows the level, I've always been impressed with him when I've seen him play in the past. He can play anywhere across the front line and I'm sure if he works hard he'll create and score goals.

“We're looking to working with him and I'm sure his experience and quality will improve are squad.”
