Shrimps goalkeeper Danijel Nizic has been called up to the Australia U23 squad for the Asian Federation Cup in a bid to qualify for the 2022 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The call-up means the 22 year-old will join up with the national U23 squad for the third time during the Olympic qualifying campaign.
Australia have three matches in their group, which is the third and final group stage before the knockout stages begin.
Syria, Vietnam and Korea Republic are the Australian’s opponents and the matches will take place between Thursday 11th January and Wednesday 17th January.
Should Australia progress to the knockout stages they will extend their stay in China for the rest of the month.
The Shrimps will potentially be without Danijel from 2nd January until 1st February.
Nizic said; “I’m delighted to be called up again, it’s an honour to represent my country.
“I’m looking forward to linking up with the squad and hopefully we do enough to qualify for the Olympics.”
