MORECAMBE 2-2 LEICESTER CITY

(Morecambe win 4-2 on penalties)

7 November 2017

THE Shrimps beat Leicester City Under 21s 4-2 on penalties after an entertaining game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.

The Shrimps started superbly and took the lead after just seven minutes when Garry Thompson scored from close range after an excellent cross from Vadaine Oliver who used his strength to get past his marker.

The young Foxes hit back with a free kick on 25 minutes when Layton Ndwuku curled a 25 yard free kick around the ball and past Dan Nizic.

The game then swung from end with both keepers making decent saves.

Leicester keeper Max Bramley saved sharply from Adam Campbell and Andy Fleming while Nizic reacted well when tested by Josh Eppiah.

With four minutes to go Leicester took the lead from a corner as Josh Knight got in front of his marker to head past Nizic from the near post.

But two minutes later the Shrimps levelled when Aaron McGowan swung over a cross from the left and Elliot Osborne headed home from close range to set up a penalty shoot out.

Michael Rose, Sam Lavelle and Osborne all scored with Nizic saving from Knight and Josh Gordon. Hamza Choudhury and Raul Uche scored for the visitors but it was Campbell who kept his cool to score to earn the Shrimps the win.
