A YOUNG Reserve team went down 4-2 to Port Vale this afternoon.

 Stewart Drummond selected a side that included a number of first team squad members looking to gain match fitness and they did show some spirit after falling 4-0 behind.

They raced into a 4-0 lead with goals from Dan Turner, Harry Benns, Anton Forrester and Rekeil Pyke, but the visitors, to their credit came back with two goals.

Former Shrimps’ favourite Adam Yates was in the Vale line up but he had to be replaced early in the game after he got a bang on the head, so striker Tyrone Barnett came on and partnered left back Graham Kelly in central defence.

The Valiants raced into a 4-0 lead with 50 minutes played with goals from Dan Turner, Harry Benns, Anton Forrester and Rekeil Pyke, but the visitors, to their credit came back with two goals through Leif Davies and Kyle Hawley.

Port Vale took the lead on eight minutes when former Morecambe loanee Anton Forrester cross for Dan Turner to sweep the ball past Dan Nizic.

The second came on 25 minutes when Billy Reeves swung in a corner which Harry Benns headed past Nizic before a third goal on 36 minutes when Forrester scored with a header back across goal from Lawrie Wilson’s cross.

The home side made it 4-0 on 49 minutes when Rekeil Pyke stroked home the loose ball from close range after an Anthony De Freitas shot had been blocked.
