ROCHE NAMED CAPTAIN

3 August 2018

JIM Bentley has named Barry Roche as his captain for the forthcoming season.

The veteran goalkeeper who is in his testimonial year has previously captained the Shrimps under Sammy Mcilroy and takes on the armband after the departure of Michael Rose.

Boss Jim Bentley said; “Baz is a very well respected amongst the team, staff, supporters and the wider community.

“He has taken on a lot of duties since I was the captain and took over as the PFA delegate when I became Manager.

“He is very organised and professional in everything he does, he leads by example, he’s a good footballer and above all he’s a top class person.”

Roche added; “The gaffer pulled me this morning and I thought it was going to be for a discussion about Crewe, so when he asked me about being captain I was surprised to be honest but I was delighted and I’m honoured to take the armband.

“I was captain in Sammy Mac’s last season as manager and it’s something I thoroughly enjoyed doing.”

Understudy to Barry Roche will be new signing Andrew Tutte and long serving player Alex Kenyon.
