ROCHE RETURN TO FITNESS

6 December 2018

SHRIMPS’ skipper Barry Roche admits he has endured a frustrating few weeks after being ruled out of action with a thigh strain.

The popular keeper was back on the bench for the club’s last game at MK Dons and says he is now pushing for a return to the side, while admitting that the form of Mark Halstead will not make things easy.

Barry said: “It has been a frustrating time for me after pulling my thigh muscle in the closing stages of the Newport game and the injury has lasted longer than expected.

“In that time Mark has done really well which has been no surprise to me. I train with him on a daily basis and I know what a good keeper he is and he has been fantastic since he came into the side.

“He has definitely put his case forward for starting and the gaffer will certainly have a tough decision to make. I thought I was doing OK until I was injured so the gaffer has a bit of a dilemma.

“It is a good dilemma to have though I suggest as he has two very good goalkeepers to choose from in my opinion.''
