RESILIENCE DELIGHTS BOSS

30 December 2018

SHRIMPS’ boss Jim Bentley said he was delighted with his side’s resilience after their 0-0 draw at high flying Colchester.

After two heavy away defeats the Shrimps kept an excellent clean sheet with a much more solid performance.

Bentley said: “Football never changes and the art of defending is doing the basics right. We didn’t do that at Lincoln and Tranmere. In both those games we were a goal down after five minutes because we didn’t do the basics right and that is the difference.

“I have looked back at the six goals we conceded in those games and every single one of them was avoidable. We were too easy to score against because we either didn’t clear our lines or gave away silly free kicks and we didn’t do that in this game and that made a massive difference.

“We stayed solid, kept our discipline, we were focused, marked players instead of space and made things very difficult for them and that is what you need to do away from home.

“It is a bit frustrating because we know we are capable of doing that week in week out and today is the sort of defensive display we need to aspire to.

“At the other end we had a couple of really good chances and on another day we could have come away with the win.''
