Man of the match Gregg Wylde earns Morecambe a vital point in the 90th minute of a nervy game at the Globe Arena.

In the early stages of the game, Forest Green managed to frustrate the Shrimps with four fouls being conceded within the first 10 minutes.

13 minutes in, Forest Green’s midfielder Chris Clements struck the ball into the top left corner of the net with a thunderous strike from 30 yards.

Morecambe came close to equalising on 2 occasions throughout the first half, both chances coming from Michael Rose’s in swinging corners from the right.

The first came on 25 minutes when Sam Lavelle’s header kissed the top of the crossbar on it’s way over as Bradley Collins was left stranded in the Rovers goal.

Just before the end of the first half, Steven Old met Rose’s delivery at the back post only for Bradley Collins to make a fine double save after his initial save was headed back towards goal by Dean Winnard.

The second half saw a much improved Shrimps performance and pushed for an equaliser, soon switching to a 4-2-3-1 formation with the introduction of Adam McGurk.

The first of two controversial decisions came on 58 minutes when Kevin Ellison was brought down when he looked favourite to get on the end of a rebound from a 20 yard Alex Kenyon drive. Farrend Rawson appeared to lunge in bringing Ellison down but Anthony Backhouse waved away the appeals for a penalty.

Less than a minute later, Aaron McGowan was brought down right on the edge of the penalty area after some neat combination play with Michaell Rose and Adam McGurk. Gavin Gunning appeared to completely miss the ball and connect studs up with McGowan’s right leg but was cautioned for simulation by referee Anthony Backhouse.

Morecambe played with more intent and aggression as the half went on. They were finally rewarded for their efforts after substitute Gary Thompson flicked a header on to Gregg Wylde in the 90th minute to put him through on goal who took his chance by hitting the ball off the post and into the net.

The result sets up a 5 point gap between Morecambe and the relegation zone with Chesterfield and Barnet at the bottom of the Sky Bet League 2 table.
