SHRIMPS’ boss Jim Bentley says Fleetwood Town will be the perfect test for his new look side as they play their final pre season game at the Globe Arena on Saturday.
The game is the first to be played on the newly laid Globe Arena pitch after the planned friendly with Bolton Wanderers was postponed a few weeks ago and Bentley is hoping for a good following for his side’s final game before the season kicks off at Crewe next week.
Joey Barton’s side have impressed in the build-up to the new Sky Bet League One season so far with victories over Southport, Salford City, STK Samorin, Zalaegerszegi TE and Tranmere Rovers.
Looking ahead to the match Bentley said: “It will be a tough game for us but one that we have selected carefully.
“We always look to play a team from a higher league than ourselves for our final pre season game as it ensures we get a full test and we can establish where we are in terms of our pre season progress.
“Fleetwood will very definitely provide the stiff test we need. They have a good squad and have brought in some good players over the summer so it should be a good game for us.
“Our pre season has been difficult because of the weather but the lads have responded well and most players have got in the minutes as planned so we have managed to make the best of the circumstances and had some good, competitive games.’'
Bentley says the game will be a good chance for Shrimps’ fans to see some of his new signings in action.
He said: “With playing all our games away so far the fans haven’t had a chance to see the new lads play yet so Saturday will provide that chance and they can get a look at the new boys who have all settled in real well.’'
The game kicks off at 3pm.
