OLD SPEAKS OF FRUSTRATION

20 September 2018

SHRIMPS' defender Steven Old says his side's season has been a "frustrating'' one so far but thinks there is still plenty of time to turn things round.

The New Zealand international, now in his second season at the Globe Arena, said: “It’s been very frustrating this season. Everyone knows we’ve been struggling to score goals and conceding too many.

"We’ve only lead a game once in the league this season and that one time we won the game. For us at this moment, the first goal is so important.

"To get the first goal in a game is massive and moving forward I think it’s really important that we do that. At the same time though we need to make sure we keep it tight at the back and ensure that if we can’t get that goal, we don’t concede.

"There are a bunch of games this season where we’ve failed to score and lost the game. Last season we’d probably have earned ourselves a few points from those games because we weren’t conceding as easily and picking up a draw here and there makes a big difference.

"As a result we’re going behind in games and struggling to get out of that mindset of losing.

"We’ve won one out of eight league games and it’s not good enough. There are many aspects we need to improve on, we need to keep being honest with ourselves, make sure we get around the park and give 100% for the shirt.

"Teams go through poor runs, and we’re going through one right now but there are 38 games left this season and we can still make this a successful one.”
