MFC COMMUNITY DAY

4 April 2019

At last Weekend's game, Morecambe Community Sports hosted their "Community Day" event which was a great success.

Community Sports invited local schools, grass- root football teams, charity organisations and many others that they have been working alongside over the past year or so to watch the Morecambe vs Crawley Town game.

Having been given the opportunity to fill the whole of the Heart FM stand, they were able to really open up the event and give something back to those in and around the local community that have been involved in the work that they have done in one way or another.

In total there was a turnout of approximately 870 people in the stand, this included 10 different schools, 5 local grass- root football teams and a local charity organisation based in Lancaster. It was great to see the positive turnout for Community Day, there were plenty of activities going on before kick- off and during half time.

Pre- match entertainment began outside the ground from 1:30pm; we had Christie the Cat and his fellow mascots parading around, meeting the young supporters and families attending the match, whilst also having photo opportunities. Entertainer Trevor Cooke was on hand to play music and get a few fun games going on with the children, whilst also greeting people into the ground. And there were also face painting stalls set up for people to get some football themed designs painted on their face ahead of the match.

Steve Cody attended Community Day to perform his Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge with some of the football teams and young supporters that were at the match. Steve will be doing his challenge for 365 consecutive days up and down the country with all proceeds going to CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria.

He is currently just past the half way mark of the challenge and has been able to raise close to his target of £2,000 for CancerCare, which are vital funds for the charity. To donate towards Steve's CancerCare Cha Cha Slide Plank challenge please visit his Just Giving page below.

Community Staff were on hand before the match to distribute the special hand clappers that had been made for supporters especially for Community Day; we would like to thank Brewers Decorating for sponsoring our Community Day event.

During half-time Community Sports then held a Penalty shootout competition where 5 lucky children got picked out from the crowd to join in, with the prize being a signed match ball from all of the Morecambe FC First team players. They each had to try and put their penalty's past the three mascots in goal to try and win the competition.

Overall Community Day was a great success and it was brilliant to see a positive turnout for the event, hopefully this will be something that it rolled out again in the near future.
