ALESSANDRA: MIXED FEELINGS AFTER EXETER DEFEAT

26 August 2019

LEWIS Alessandra said he was delighted with his two goals against Exeter on Saturday but disappointed that they did not lead to at least a point against the early season pace setters Exeter.

After coming on as a first half substitute for the ill Adam Buxton he said: “Being brought on all came about quite quickly and I didn’t realise I was coming on at first.

“Being two down at the time, it was just a case of us becoming more of an attacking threat and the gaffer told me to go in the hole and look to create something. It was great to do that and score twice but obviously disappointing to end up with nothing from the game.

“The goal just before half time was the perfect time to score and to go in at the break only one goal down did give us a lift and in the second half we were much better and when we got back to 2-2 I thought we were the only side that was going to win the game.

“In some ways, we may not have respected the point enough against a good side but alternatively it would have seemed a bit negative to be on the front foot and then settled for a point at home and not chased the winner and they scored on the break which was a bit of a sucker punch.’'

Asked about his own form after taking his tally to three for the season he said: “I’m happy with the start I have made especially as we have real strength in depth in terms of forward players so I have to score goals and maintain my form as if I don’t there are plenty of people who could replace me.

“The main thing though is to score goals that win you games and unfortunately that didn’t happen on Saturday.''
