CHARLIE APPLEYARD & JAMES WAKEFIELD JOIN CLUB BOARD

11 December 2019

MORECAMBE FC is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Directors to its Board.

Charlie Appleyard and James Wakefield are both lifelong Shrimps fans who take up their positions immediately.

Charlie, the Managing Director of the club’s first team shirt sponsor Annapurna Recruitment, grew up in the Morecambe area and then moved to London after university.

He has won several awards for his international business activities and has got to know the owners, the board, staff and players at Morecambe FC due to his support of the club, his involvement with the club’s charity partner, The Cure Parkinson’s Trust and his position as captain of the UK Parkinson’s football team.

Charlie said: “I’m absolutely delighted to take up this opportunity.

“I have a lot to offer the club from a business strategy perspective. However, as I’m also a fan, sponsor, charity partner and local lad, I can approach tasks and projects assigned to me with all these perspectives in mind.”

James Wakefield also grew up in the Morecambe area, meeting Charlie at Bolton-le-Sands Primary School in 1983 and forging a lifelong friendship.

He too is a huge Shrimps fan and the Chief Executive of Cobalt, a leading recruitment company with more than 200 people operating from offices globally.

Before embarking on his business career, James served as an Officer in the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, during which he deployed on multiple operational tours and was awarded a Queen’s Commendation for his efforts to rebuild the key infrastructure of Southern Iraq in 2003.

James added: “To have the opportunity to volunteer whatever time, ideas and expertise we are able to offer to our home town club is a great honour. Morecambe FC has huge potential and both Charlie and I just want to do whatever we can to help it realise that potential, for the good of the town and wider area that we are proud to be from."

Co-Chairman, Rod Taylor commented: "We announced a few weeks ago that we were looking to strengthen the Board of Directors and the addition of Charlie and James certainly does just that.

"With their local knowledge, proven business acumen and passion for this football club, these appointments make a very positive statement as we move into 2020.
