SHRIMPS’ boss Jim Bentley has praised the ground staff at Oldham for their efforts in trying to get Saturday’s game on.
Unfortunately, the game fell victim to the weather and was postponed, despite the best efforts of the staff at Oldham.
Jim said: “It was disappointing that the game was called off because you want to play every weekend as your whole week is geared up to it.
"Ours was always going to be in doubt and games nearby were called off on the Friday but every credit to the ground staff at Oldham for their efforts to get it on. I heard they had some staff sleeping there overnight and people made a great effort to clear the pitch on the Friday so I know they gave their absolute all and put in a great effort but it wasn’t to be.’'
With the game called off Bentley was able to take in Bury’s game against Crawley and get a good view of Saturday’s opponents.
He said: “The good thing about the game being off was that it gave me a chance to watch Bury against Crawley. It ended up as a draw but Bury probably deserved to win the game overall.
“They are a good side and it will be a tough game without a doubt but we will be up for the challenge.
“These are the sort of games you should look forward to as a player. You always want to test yourself against the best sides and a good result really can give you a shot in the arm.
“Look at Newcastle’s win over Man City the other week. It gave them a massive lift and gave everyone a huge shot of confidence and that is what good results against top sides can do.’'
