MORECAMBE boss Jim Bentley has announced that Garry Thompson has not been offered a new contract - but says the door is not completely closed on the winger’s time at the club.
Thompson’s contract ended on the December 31st and at this stage will not be renewed.
The manager said: "Garry’s contract has run out.
“I have had ongoing chats with him and there is a lot to take into consideration. He has done fantastically well to get back to fitness after the injury he had but at this stage of his career he needs to be playing regular football.
“Unfortunately I can’t guarantee him that at the moment and with the financial aspect in regards of wages at this present we can’t commit to renewing his contract and he will look at other things.
“I have to do what is right for the club and Garry Thompson has to do what is right for him.
"The door isn’t fully closed but at this moment in time Thommo is taking time to see what the future holds for him and in the meantime we will look to get the right replacements in.
"Garry is an absolute legend here and he is a good mate so we have to do things right because he has been a great servant for this club.
“We will keep talking and look to see what happens in the next four weeks in the transfer window and take it from there.’'
Bentley has also announced that loan striker Joe Pigott has returned to Wigan.
The manager said: “Joe is a great lad and I wish him well, but unfortunately I can’t guarantee him a regular game.’’
