John O'Sullivan says he is excited for the season to get going after the pre-season programme comes to an end.
The 25-year-old played 90 minutes of the Shrimps final pre-season friendly match, which was against one of O'Sullivan's former sides.
The Shrimps were beaten 2-0 on the day at the County Ground despite creating more clear openings and enjoying large spells of possession.
"I think for 60-65 minutes we were the better team," John said after the match. "We look back on some of the chances, we created loads of them.
"I'm obviously disappointed about the penalty but if you look at the game as a whole, we played really well, there was some really good stuff and there are loads of positives to take into the season.
"We have a few players to come back into the team and we're looking good.
"I know all the lads at Accrington and that was more or less their strongest side. It will likely be their team that starts on the opening day of the season bar maybe one.
"I think if you looked at the game you wouldn't know who was league 1 and who was league 2.
"I know it's only pre-season but we all know that when it comes to Accy and Morecambe there are no friends so it was feisty, it was a very competitive game."
The Shrimps begin their League 2 campaign this Saturday when Mark Jolley's Grimsby Town side visit the Globe Arena and O'Sullivan is looking forward to the 2019/20 campaign getting underway.
"I can't wait for the season to start now. I'm lucky enough not to have missed a day of pre-season since I signed so personally, I'm excited to start my journey with the club."
Shrimps fans are reminded to purchase their match tickets in advance as there will be an increase of £2 for all tickets purchased on the day of the match.
