MORECAMBE boss Jim Bentley says his players are “chomping at the bit’’ to start pre-season training.
The Shrimps’ report back on Wednesday with Bentley looking forward to meeting up with his squad.
He said: "I’ve been in contact with the lads during the summer to see how they have been getting on and they are all chomping at the bit to get back and quietly confident that they can carry on the good work they did in the second half of last season.
"There’s a real feel-good factor around the lads after the way they finished last season and it is key that we can keep that momentum going.
“We are certainly a lot further ahead than where we were this time last season in terms of the squad.
"We have done well in terms of the players we wanted to re-sign and although it was a bit disappointing to see a couple of lads choose to go to other clubs last week on the whole it has been a good summer for us.
“We wish the lads who left us well but life goes on. We know we can't compete with a lot of the other clubs but that is part and parcel of the game and we will do all we can to get in good players to replace them.
“We have players who want to be here and we are working on a few targets now plus we have players like A-Jay Leitch-Smith who missed a large chunk of last season who are itching to get back and will be like new signings in many ways so we are pretty pleased with what we have and we are all looking forward to a good pre-season.’'
