CREWE ALEXANDRA 5-0 MORECAMBE

23 November 2019

MORECAMBE suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at Gresty Road.

First half goals from Oliver Finney, Tom Lowery and Charlie Kirk followed by second half strikes from Ryan Wintle and Finney again saw the Shrimps, who also saw Sam Lavelle sent off in the first half, suffer their heaviest defeat of the season.

Morecambe boss Derek Adams named the same side that drew 1-1 at Crawley with the only change coming on the bench with Jordan Cranston coming in for Shaun Miller who was not allowed to play against his parent club.

Crewe took the lead on 23 minutes when Ryan Wintle lifted a lovely ball to the far post for Finney to nod his first league goal for the club.

It was 2-0 on 31 minutes when Lowery was allowed time to take a touch and shoot, and his effort took a wicked deflection past the helpless keeper Mark Halstead.

Matters got worse for The Shrimps when Lavelle was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Harry Pickering.

On 38 minutes it was 3-0.

Kirk cut inside from the left and unleashed a rocket of a shot which was deflected past the keeper and into the far corner.

In the final moments of the half, it could have got worse for the Shrimps as Pickering and Lowery both hit the woodwork as the Alex dominated.

The home side made it 4-0 just before the hour when Wintle beat Halstead with a superb strike from 20 yards out before Finney wrapped it up late on with a right-footer.

Kirk hit a post as the one-way traffic continued, and it really could have been more.
