SHRIMPS URGE FANS TO SUPPORT FOODBANK APPEAL AT CARLISLE FIXTURE

26 November 2019

Morecambe Football Club is once again encouraging all fans to back the town's Foodbank appeal.

The Shrimps are asking all fans to "Bring a Tin"" to their game against Carlisle on Saturday, December 7. A similar appeal last season was a roaring success and the Shrimps are looking to build on that this year.

Members of the foodbank will be at the Globe Arena to take donations and speak to fans about the service they provide.

Shrimps' Co-Chairman, Rod Taylor, said the club wants to show its support for vital community projects in the town.

He said: "The Morecambe Bay Foodbank provides a vital service for the town and we want to do what we can to support it especially at this time of year.

"The football club has an important role to play in the community and we want to do all we can to support people in the town who need help and if every supporter brings just one tin to the game we will make a massive difference.

"We had a similar appeal last season and the generosity of fans was amazing.’’

A spokesperson for The Morecambe Bay Foodbank said: “More than 90% of the food distributed by foodbanks in The Trussell Trust network is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food.

“We always welcome donations and promise to use them to provide help to people in crisis.’’

The collection has been organised in conjunction with the Shrimps Trust supporters group.

Stuart Rae from the Trust said: "We are happy to promote the vital work that the Trussell Trust performs within our local community and encourage all Shrimps Trist members to back this fantastic initiative.’’
