There's been plenty of progress during the community sports walking football sessions over the past month.
Since the community Walking Football sessions have switched over to a Tuesday evening 7-8pm at Heysham Mossgate Sports centre we have seen a consistent turnout in numbers every week with the participants finding their feet and overall the quality of the football has improved greatly.
Community Sports coach Martin Powell, who has been running the walking football sessions since the initial launch in June, said "We have now managed to progress into playing full length matches with all of the rules added in, which includes keeping the ball below shoulder height, limited contact (no slide tackles), no shooting in the box and the obvious one- no running".
"There has been a consistent turnout of 20 plus participants each week and they have got to know each other well during the past few months".
"We are currently working to get a team going for the walking football group for those that are more serious about it and there is then the option to enter competitions and work alongside other EFL clubs' community trusts".
At this moment in time the sessions will be continuing on tuesday's 7-8pm, as winter approaches we are aware that the weather will take a turn and an indoor venue would be ideal for participants to keep it running all year round.
In addition, there is still the free Friday sessions every afternoon 12:30-13:30 at Regents park for people of all footballing ability aged 35 and over.
These sessions work in partnership with Active Lancashire and aim to get people in the area keeping active, socialising and enjoying a fun sport in a relaxed environment.
