LOAN DEAL | Adam Phillips

12 August 2020

MORECAMBE FC have signed Adam Phillips on a season-long loan from Burnley.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who scored four goals in 11 starts for the Shrimps after joining in January last season, will be a welcome addition to Derek Adams’ squad for the forthcoming campaign.

Phillips, who came through the youth academy at Liverpool before spending two years at Norwich City, signed for Burnley in the summer of 2019 and was offered a new deal in the summer with the Premiership club.

A central midfielder, Phillips has played first-team football during loan spells from Norwich with League Two side Cambridge United and Scottish top-flight side Hamilton Academicals.

After an impressive first-half to the season with the U23s, Phillips then joined the Shrimps on loan until the end of the season, alongside Turf Moor teammate Ryan Cooney.

Derek Adams said: "Adam came in last season and scored some important goals for us.

"He can play a sitting role or attacking role in central midfield where he did really well for us and we're looking for him to add to his goal tally for us this season.

"I'm delighted to get Adam and Ryan (Cooney) back with us and it gives us good competition for places all over the squad.

"It's up to them now to get into the starting line-up."
