SAM LAVELLE | Pre-season has been very, very tough

19 August 2020

SAM Lavelle says he believes the Shrimps will be one of the fittest teams in League 2 this year after a gruelling pre-season so far.

The Shrimps are set for their first match of pre-season on Saturday and they have been undergoing some intense fitness work to get them ready.

Lavelle said: “Pre-season has been very, very tough so far. It’s the hardest I've been through and a lot of the lads think so too.

“I think we're through the toughest week now and we're better for it. Last week on the athletics track was so tough, especially with the heat.

It was 30 degrees and it was stuffy. It was horrible really but it's only going to benefit us and I'm sure we'll be one of the fittest teams in the league.

“It's actually quite exciting to see how it pays off when the games start so I'm looking forward to the start of the season.

“We've brought in a bunch of new faces and they're all great lads. They've all fitted in really well and they'll benefit the squad in different ways.

“The young lads have done really well too. Ibra Bakare was with us last year but Freddie Price has come in and done really well and I'm sure he can add something to the team at some point.”
