SIGNING | Kelvin Mellor

13 August 2020

THE Shrimps have added the experienced Kelvin Mellor to their squad for the coming season.

The 29-year-old defender has a wealth of EFL experience, having got promoted from Sky Bet League Two with Crewe Alexandra and also represented Plymouth Argyle and Blackpool.

Kelvin began his career with Crewe and played 91 times for them in a career that spanned six years, scoring two goals.

He was part of the Alex side that beat Cheltenham Town in the 2011/12 play-off final, which saw Crewe gain promotion back into the third tier of English football.

"Kelvin comes in from Bradford with good experience," said Derek Adams.

"He was with me at Plymouth a number of seasons ago, can play at right-back or right centre half, he's a very good football player and can get forward, create chances and score goals."

Mellor added: "I'm delighted to get it done.

"Obviously I've worked with the gaffer before so I know what he's about. I'm really happy to be here and get this move over the line.

"I've been speaking with the gaffer over the past few weeks and after such a long layoff with everything that's gone on, there are a lot of lads out of contract so I'm thankful that I've been able to get sorted and I'm ready for the season to begin now."
