Derek Adams | We were hard done to

6 December 2020

MORECAMBE boss Derek Adams said his side feel “Hard done to’’ after coming away from Newport empty handed.

The boss said his side’s performance deserved something from the game against the league leaders who took the three points courtesy of a late Matty Dolan penalty.

He said: "Newport will be delighted with the three points but we certainly feel hard done to.

"We didn’t deserve to lose the game because we limited them to very few opportunities. They had a few long range shots but they didn’t trouble us. They didn’t get behind us much and didn’t create many good openings and I think we had the better chances over the 90 minutes.

"We had the better chances throughout the 90 minutes. We looked dangerous on the counter attack and we should have put one of those chances away but we didn’t.

"Newport got a goal early in the first half with a scramble after we didn’t deal particularly well with a bad into our box.

"Then we got a goal back through Carlos with a good finish from an Adam Phillips ball which was a similar goal to the one against Barrow on Tuesday.

"Those two are getting a nice understanding because Carlos makes some good runs behind defences and Adam has the capacity to find him like he did a few times today. Carlos scored one and had one chance in the second half where their defender had to make a last gasp challenge to stop him getting a free run on goal.

"I thought Newport had the better of the first half but we had the better chances in the second and over the 90 minutes I think we probably had more chances than them to win the game and should have at least taken a point.’'
