PHILLIPS HOPES TO CONTINUE GOALSCORING FORM

7 November 2020

MORECAMBE’S top scorer Adam Phillips says he hopes he can take his goalscoring form into the FA Cup this weekend.

If selected, Phillips will make his first appearance in the FA Cup and is hoping to mark the milestone with a victory.

The on loan Burnley midfielder says his side will be taking nothing for granted against a Maldon and Tiptree outfit that hasn't lost so far this season.

He said: “I think it will be an interesting game. They are doing really well this season so we have to go there and be professional and do things right.

"We obviously don’t know too much about them but I am sure they will be up for it as it is on their home pitch and it will be tough no doubt.

“We can’t take it lightly and we will have to attack the game and look to do the job in the right way. We are a few leagues above them but this is the FA Cup.

“I’ve watched the FA Cup as I’ve grown up and every time you see the TV coverage there are upsets so we have to go there and do our job and make sure we get the result that we need to progress in the competition.

“It’s my first game in the FA Cup if selected and will be another nice moment for me. As I said I’ve always watched it as I’ve grown up and it will be nice to be a part of it and hopefully get a goal or make a contribution to a team win.

“It's been a good start for me and I’ve bagged a couple of goals with a few from the penalty spot. I’d like to add a few more from open play but as long as I keep getting in the right areas the goals will hopefully keep coming.

“It’s on TV and we will both be up for it but hopefully we can get the right result.''
