Sam Lavelle says he is looking for the Shrimps to get a good start to the season.
Morecambe travel to Cheltenham for their first League 2 game of the campaign with Lavelle hoping for a positive start.
He said: “Cheltenham were a good side last year and beat us at their ground at the end of the season so we know we are in for a tough game.
“We are really focused on getting a good start this year unlike the past couple of seasons where we have struggled early on.
“We haven’t had that many games in pre-season but we have shown some good signs and I think there is a lot more to come from us and when it fully clicks we will be a good side.
“September will be massive for us with the first four or five league games key to how we progress
“The squad is strong. We are confident around each other and is very together and there is no reason we feel that we can’t beat any team in this league on our day.’’
Lavelle says he is also looking forward to taking his cup goalscoring exploits into the league this season after finding the target against Rochdale kin midweek.
He said: “I always seem to start the season with a cup goal. I did it at Barnsley a few years ago and Mansfield last season and that is an area I really want to improve on this year. I need to get on the scoresheet more and be more of a threat in the box to take myself to that next level.
“We do have some real quality in terms of set pieces with Ben Pringle and Adam Phillips and a few others always likely to produce some dangerous balls into good areas and we will have to look to use those skills this year.’’
