Derek Adams said his side will be looking to maintain their push for promotion when they face in-form Port Vale on Saturday.
The Shrimps face a side that has won its last five games with Adams knowing his team will have to be at their best.
He said: "The players were disappointed after Tuesday’s game but they are always disappointed when they don’t win which is a good thing and is a good mentality to have.
"There was a different pressure on us on Tuesday as we were expected to beat a side that was in League 1 last year and that shows you how far we have come in a short period of time. If you look to the not too distant past the club was fighting to stay in League 2 and now we are fighting to get out of League 2 and into League 1.
"Two games ago we beat the league leaders and went close against Cambridge but some people thought we should have won on Tuesday because Southend were struggling to get the points they need.
“But things are never that easy and although everyone was disappointed we are just delighted to be fifth in the table with seven games to go with a fighting chance of getting automatic promotion.''
