Diagouraga feels Shrimps are on the up

13 August 2021

The Shrimps host their first ever Sky Bet League One game on Saturday, and Morecambe’s number eight feels as though it’s a sign of where the club is heading.

The 34-year-old midfielder has made 57 appearances since signing for the club in January 2020, scoring four goals and providing the same number of assists.

The Frenchman, who remains a key man within manager Stephen Robinson’s squad, feels as though the Shrimps are a club on the up.

“I think it’s great for the club,” Diagouraga said.

“It just shows what direction the club is going into, it’s a club on the up and hopefully we can get three points on Saturday.

“It’s always if you get it [first three points] quickly, but we’re not going to be too high or too down if that doesn’t happen, we go to every game trying to win.

Speaking about if teams should take note of Morecambe’s impressive start to the campaign, he added: “I think they should, but if they don’t, then it’s got nothing to do with us.

“We know what we’re capable of and we’ll be going into every game trying to win and seeing where that takes us.

Shrimps boss Robinson has made 17 summer signings, and the former Brentford man believes that will be a big bonus to the side throughout the season.

“We’ve got a really good team,” he added.

“Maybe from the outside, people don’t see it, but we know what we’re capable of, and it’s all about us at the end of the day.

“I think he [Robinson] wants to have two in every position, and if you look at our squad, we’ve got two players for every position.

“There’s not, if any, any difference between all the players so we’ve got a good squad and we’re going to need it going forward.”
