O'Connor commends Robinson and backroom staff

20 August 2021

Central defender Anthony O’Connor has commended Stephen Robinson and his staff for the way they have got their instructions across to the players.

O’Connor is one of 18 new signings that have come through the door at the Mazuma Stadium, and he says the players are striving to better themselves everyday.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the gaffer, him and his staff have come in and done really well with the players,” he said.

“It is a new way of playing for a lot of the lads that were here last year, but they have all gone away and take the messages on board quickly, and that has shown in the performances so far.

“I  still think there is a lot of room for improvement, and us as a group strive to get better everyday and just keep getting better.”

Despite suffering defeat on Tuesday night against Rotherham United, the Shrimps faithful showed their appreciation for the teams effort by sending the team off with a standing ovation, and O’Connor has thanked the fans for their efforts already this season.

“The support has been brilliant already this season, it helps us massively, even the support at Ipswich spurred us on to get a result down there and we did,” he added.

“We are going to need that support throughout the season, there will be times that we are under the cosh a little bit and games might not go our way.

“That is football, but we are going to need the supporters, they have a part tp play and they will help the way that we play at times.”
