Robinson looking forward to facing old club

23 August 2021

A former Preston North End player in his day, Shrimps boss Stephen Robinson is looking forward to facing his old club on Tuesday night.

The Lilywhites are the visitors to the Mazuma Stadium in Round Two of this season’s Carabao Cup, and Robinson says playing the Sky Bet Championship outfit will be a good test for his side.

“It is a nice draw and it is one that I wanted, either Preston or Stoke," he said.

“A home game is what we wanted and Preston gives us a good opportunity for us to test ourselves.

“They [Preston] struggled to get off the mark with a win but did at the weekend, they have a lot of depth in their squad, make no mistake it is a tough game but we’re going to go out there and enjoy ourselves.”

With it set to be a sell-out on Tuesday evening, Robinson says the atmosphere from the home fans could be the difference on the night.

“The next two games are going to be a full house and it just shows the direction the club is heading in,” he added.

“The atmosphere in the last two home games have been excellent, I don’t think the players appreciate that at times because it helps a lot, and there is a great feeling around the football club.

“Win, lose or draw, we will continue to stay level-headed, we know what we set out to achieve at the start of the season and I don’t get too carried away when we win.”
