Stephen Robinson says his side have nothing to fear when they travel to the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland AFC in Sky Bet League One.
The Shrimps earned a point from Ipswich Town on the opening day and followed it up with a win over Sheffield Wednesday a few games later, and Robinson is adamant that his team can upset the odds once again.
“We are not frightened of anyone in this division, for me there is no one that has come and rolled us over, granted the scoreline against MK Dons suggests that, but the performance didn’t,” he said.
“We have absolutely nothing to fear, we have only lost one game in our last five and we are starting to get a settled back four.
“We won’t play any differently because we are going to the Stadium of Light, sometimes it is what you do on the ball rather than what you do off it, we have shown already this season that we can perform against some of the best sides in this division and Tuesday night will be no different.”
Tuesday’s game is followed up with a trip to another prestigious ground in the form of Fratton Park as we take on Portsmouth on Saturday, and Robinson admits that these games are two of the biggest in the Club’s history.
“Heading to the Stadium of Light presents us with a completely different challenge [compared to Buxton in the FA Cup], it is one of the main reasons you are in football,” he added.
“You have to embrace a game like Tuesday night, the size of the stadium, the crowd and the history of the football club, for Morecambe this is another game for the memory bank because it is probably a ground that they have never been to.
“Then after that we are down in Portsmouth, another old ground, a great ground with tremendous atmosphere, but first and foremost we have to take care of the game on Tuesday but these are the ones you enjoy.”
