DEREK ADAMS | Players From Both Sides Deserve A Lot Of Credit

21 January 2021

Derek Adams says his side showed great spirit to come from behind to take a point from the game against Walsall.

Carlos Mendes Gomes earned a share of the spoils with a header 10 minutes from time to level after Josh Gordon’s first half goal gave the Saddlers the lead.

In a game played in atrocious conditions Adams said: "It was a horrendous night and the ground staff deserve a lot of credit for getting the game on.

“The conditions were tough but the players from both sides deserve a lot of credit for putting on a good show.

“The first half was pretty even but they took the lead probably against the run of play at the time. But we came back well and showed great spirit again and we controlled large spells in the second half.

“We had some good opportunities before we scored what was a really good goal with a great header from Carlos after a fantastic cross form Ryan Cooney to get it to 1-1.

"We ended the game really strongly and should have had a penalty when Aaron Wildig was put through and held back and Liam McAlinden was pulled back to after that.

“I felt we did have more chances to win the game and missed a couple of really good opportunities at the death but we will take the point and move on.

"We moved up to eighth in the table and to have 35 points already at this stage of the season is fabulous.''
