LOAN DEAL | Josh McPake

1 July 2021

Morecambe Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of winger Josh McPake from Scottish champions Rangers on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old joins the Shrimps following a six-month loan spell with Harrogate Town last campaign, making 23 appearances and scoring four goals for the North Yorkshire side.

McPake, who represented Scotland at youth level, said he’s looking forward to making the step up with the club to Sky Bet League One.

“I played in League Two and it was a tough league to get in but I’m glad to be out of it and taking another step up,” he said.

“I was playing with Harrogate last season, so I played against Morecambe a few times and I thought they were quite a good team and they deserved to get promotion.

“I’m looking forward to getting in and seeing the lads.”

Shrimps boss Stephen Robinson admits that, having previously kept an eye on the Scot, he is pleased to get the deal over the line.

“Josh is a boy I’ve kept close tabs on from Scotland,” Robinson said.

“He’s had a couple of loans now which is good, and I can see him getting better and better with each minute of football.

“Towards the end of his loan at Harrogate last season, he scored goals and he’s somebody that can play anywhere across the front three.

“He creates chances and he’s a really exciting signing for us.

“He’s still young, they think very highly of him at Rangers and Steven Gerrard and the staff have been brilliant letting us have him so we’re grateful that we’ve got him here and I think the fans will enjoy watching him.”
