CARLOS MENDES GOMES | Everyone Played Their Part

5 March 2021

Carlos Mendes Gomes praised his team mates after Tuesday night’s victory over Crawley.

The 22-year-old scored twice in the 3-1 win and took his tally to 11 for the season as he moved ahead of Adam Phillips in the Shrimps’ top scorers list.

Looking back at the game Carlos said: "We were all disappointed with the way we played at Mansfield because it was one of only a few games this season where we didn’t really create any chances but on Tuesday we went back to our normal ways and we caused them a lot of problems.

"We started the game really well and got the early goal which gave us a great start.

"We knew we had to be at it from the off against Crawley and we did that.

"We know we should have taken more of our chances in games we have played this season but we did that on Tuesday and got a really good three points.’'

Talking about his own form he said: "On a personal level it was great to get to 11 goals for the season with two goals.

"The first one came from a great ball from Stephen Hendrie but the second one was more of a reaction from me after their goalkeeper had saved Cole Stockton’s shot. I knew Cole was going to look for the back post and I just had to make sure I beat the defender to the ball if it came loose.

"It was a really open game from the start and I just knew if I could find the right spaces and the right areas I would have a chance of getting some more goals and creating chances for the team.

"Overall it was a really good performance with everyone playing their part.''
