Gaffer looking to build momentum

8 November 2021

Stephen Robinson says his side will look at tomorrow’s Papa John’s Trophy fixture at home to Carlisle United as an opportunity to build on last Saturday’s win.

Robinson was pleased with how Morecambe performed in our FA Cup First Round victory over Newport County which saw the Shrimps claim victory by a goal to nil whilst also keeping a clean sheet.

Tuesday night’s clash with the Cumbrian side is the last before the international break, and the manager is hoping that the team can carve out a victory ahead of our next league outing.

“We know we’re out of the competition,” he said.

“With the results, we want to get a bit of momentum, we want to build for Fleetwood so I will keep the team as unchanged as I can.

“We’ve got three boys away, Jökull [Andrésson], Alfie [McCalmont] and Greg [Leigh], so we’ll make those changes, but the boys coming in are good, good players, it gives them an opportunity.

“We will try and stay strong, and go and try to make it two wins in a row.”

After labelling the FA Cup First Round win over Newport County as his ‘favourite performance of the season’, Robinson says it’s as simple as sticking to what his side are good at.

He added: “As we do in every game, we study the opposition, but I feel very much it’s about building the momentum from Saturday.

“Trying to get another result under our belt and learning from the things that we’re very good at, do them again, and try and get some sort of consistency into that.

“Previously I’ve made nine or 10 changes for these games, that won’t be the case tomorrow night.”
