Robinson takes responsibility

3 November 2021

Manager Stephen Robinson says he will take full responsibility for Tuesday night’s defeat to Cambridge United in Sky Bet League One.

Goals from Ben Worman and Joe Ironside saw the U’s walk away with all three points from the Mazuma Stadium, and Robinson wants his players to rise to the occasion.

“Ultimately I take the blame, I will take responsibility and I know it is on me to make sure I sort it out,” he said.

“I know what needs to change and I am challenging people to rise to the occasion to show me that they can play at this level because it is tough.

“We have a lot of games before Christmas and in those games I want to see people step up, they need to start standing up and taking responsibility.”

The introduction of youngster Freddie Price just after the hour mark clearly impressed the gaffer, adding that the younger members in his squad have impressed him of late.

He added: “Some of the younger lads like Freddie Price, Alfie [McCalmont] and Callum [Jones] actually showed some fire in their belly.

“Freddie came on and showed a lot of enthusiasm if nothing else, Alfie showed a lot of bravery again.

“The bravery to get on the ball to try and play, yes, he made mistakes, mistakes I can live with, a lack of bravery which we saw on Tuesday night is something I can’t live with.”
