It’s a case of minor tweaks says Gibson

18 October 2021

Defender Liam Gibson believes the Shrimps will be able to look up, not down, once a few small defensive tweaks are made.

Stephen Robinson’s men currently sit second in the Sky Bet League One leading scorers table, behind early season promotion favourites Ipswich Town, with an average of 1.83 goals per game.

Gibson, who netted his first professional goal away at Burton Albion on Friday night, says that once one or two defensive creases are ironed out, it’ll be a case of looking up the table for the Shrimps, not down.

“It shows that we are doing something right,” he said.

“There are little tweaks we need to make, especially defensively, and when we get that right, I think the only way we can look is up.

“I think the attacking players have got to look at us defenders and probably think ‘come on’, because when we’re scoring two goals away from home, we should be getting at least a point out of the game.”

The Shrimps will be hoping to bounce back with a victory over Michael Duff’s Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night and given last season’s double victory over the Gloucestershire side, Gibson is taking nothing for granted.

The 24-year-old added: “We’re under no illusion that it’s going to be another tough game, like every game is in League One.

“We’ve got to put Friday night behind us and look to get three points away at Cheltenham.

“We know from last season they are a very strong team, so we’re going to have to be on our game.

“A clean sheet would do I think after the past few weeks, so a nice 1-0 would be perfect!”
