McCalmont praises Shrimps belief

1 October 2021

Alfie McCalmont says Stephen Robinson’s side have bags of belief going into Saturday’s Sky Bet League One clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

The Chairboys enjoyed the 2020/21 campaign in the Championship before relegation back to League One on the final day.

Gareth Ainsworth’s men have enjoyed a strong start to the season, sitting sixth in the table after winning five, drawing two and losing two of their opening nine games, and the 21-year-old says he believes the Shrimps could well cause an upset.

“They’re a good team,” he said.

“They came down from the Championship last season, and are doing well this season, but we’ll go there with nothing to lose.

“We’ll keep playing how we play, and we’ll hopefully create an upset, we believe we can.

“We just go out to play and win, that’s all we’re bothered about, getting the results, getting the performances to match the results is nice, and that’s what we want.

“We’ve got to keep focussing on the games ahead, we can’t slack off, we’ve just got to keep that momentum going.”

Following a strong start to the season, the Leeds United loanee says the aim of the team is to keep looking forward and up the table rather than behind them.

McCalmont added: “As a team, we don’t look down, we’re just looking forward.

“Beating teams like Lincoln, they got into the Play-Offs last season, just shows how good we are, but we’ve got to get that consistency now.

“We’ve had a few wins, and then a draw and a loss, we just want to make sure that we get them consistent wins because if we do, I think it’ll put us right up there.”
